Trend Trackers is an interactive, problem-based learning supplement for students in grades 7-10 that takes place over five class periods. In Trend Trackers, students take on the role of a data scientist to investigate a mysterious rise in hospitalizations in a fictional city called Springfield. Students engage in a process of inquiry, collecting and analyzing data, and work together as a team to design a data tool to help Springfield.

In this NGSS aligned curriculum, students create their own characters, solve puzzles, and collect data through virtual labs. As students investigate what’s happening in Springfield, they meet real scientists and learn new ways to address high rates of flu, asthma, and food-borne illnesses.
