BioDive off with a splash!

Teachers and student scientists from Virginia, Maine, Ohio, Indiana, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and California were the first to accept their mission from the Field and Beaker Investigators (F&BI).

BioDive our immersive dual virtual reality/digital biodiversity experience began a national pilot this week launching in seven states across the country.

Shout out to the amazing faculty and students at The New Community School, Sanford Junior High, Bristol High School, Edmunds Central High School, Cameron Middle School, Highland High School and Sacramento Country Day School! We are so excited to take this voyage with you!

By the end of the 2019 spring semester students in middle and high schools across all fifty states will have had the chance to dive in, explore, and investigate diverse marine environments across the globe.

Their goal? To stop the destruction of our greatest natural resource, the ocean. Student scientists set off on a journey of exploration and discovery at dive sites in the IndoPacific, Eastern Atlantic, and Eastern Pacific.

Toggling between virtual and digital environments, the FB&I students scientists explore the impacts of abiotic factors on biotic variables across three tropical marine environments in which venomous marine snails are found. Throughout the BioDive experience, students make observations, collect data, and develop hypotheses around the changes they see.

BioDive is aligned with NGSS standards so students are gaining valuable content knowledge during their immersive experience. By following the scientific processes of inquiry, discovery, and questioning, students role play as scientists to examine threats facing our oceanic biodiversity.

We can’t wait to get feedback from the student scientists and their amazing teachers on their week long BioDIVE experience!
